What are All-on-4 dental implants?

All-on-4 dental implants are designed to replace an entire arch, or row, of teeth in either your upper or lower jaw. They are called all-on-4 because they use just four titanium implants to secure a new row of teeth.

You may also have heard them referred to as full-arch implants, ‘Teeth in a Day’ or ‘Smile in a Day’; this is because temporary crowns or bridges can usually be placed the same day as the dental implants themselves. Even if you have been told in the past that you are not suitable for implants, as all-on-4 implants use less bone, it is often still possible to fit them.

As well as all-on-4 implants, Dr Uzman also offers single-tooth implants, implant retained dentures and all-on-6 implants, which are like all-on-4 but use 6 implants on each jaw instead of 4.

Consultation

At your consultation, Dr Uzman will examine your teeth and gums, then talk you through treatment options and answer any questions or concerns. With the latest medical imaging technology, you’ll be able to preview how your smile will look after your all-on-four implants have been fitted. You’ll be provided with a fully costed treatment plan.

Surgery

Dr Uzman will place four titanium implants in each jaw. This will be done under sedation for your comfort. The implants will be placed precisely so that they mimic the roots of natural teeth, maximising the amount of bone that can be used.

Temporary teeth

Once your implants have been placed, we’ll fit abutments, which are attachments to secure your new teeth. You’ll be able to go home with a new set of stable, fixed teeth. Although these are not the final version, they will be fully functional while your bone is healing.

Final restoration

After approximately 6 months, the bone in your jaw will have fully healed and fused with the implants, a process called osseointegration. After this, Dr Uzman will be able to fit your new permanent teeth. We will work with you to ensure that you are completely happy with your new smile.

All-on-4 implants are fitted under sedation or local anaesthetic for your comfort. During the procedure itself you should not feel any pain; however, you may feel some discomfort after your surgery. This can usually be treated with over-the-counter medication such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
